This recital explores the many facets of American sacred song. Listeners will hear thoughtful arrangements of well-known hymns by Copland and Ives, alongside spirituals set by the famous singer/composer, Harry T. Burleigh. The program also features set by two lesser-known composers. Siddons will perform songs by organist/composer Daniel Pinkham which are setting of verse from the Book of Ecclesiastes, and the rarely heard “Eight Epitaphs” by Theodore Chandler. These poignant and atmospheric songs are settings of imaginary gravestone inscriptions.
